Summer reading and I’m not in high school…

I got distracted once again. But rest assured, the math and algorithms will come again eventually (just not right now).

I’ve been reading Quiet by Susan Cain and one quote particularly stuck out to me, enough so that I’m making a blog post on it.

But what if you admire the hyperthymic among us, but also like your calm and thoughtful self? What if you love knowledge for its own sake, not necessarily as a blueprint to action? What if you wish there were more, not fewer, reflective types in the world?

Granted, Cain was talking about a particular experience with a program intended to promote extroversion on steroids, but I think this quote speaks for more than just introvertedness. It speaks to the motivation behind seeking knowledge, and I fully hope that there exists a good chunk of the world who seek knowledge because knowledge is beautiful rather than as a means to an end.
